DESCRIPTION:TÍTULO DO TRABALHO: As faces do Brasil: América e Mr. Slang e o Brasil\, de Monteiro Lobato \nRESUMO EM PORTUGUÊS: A presente pesquisa pretende analisar as reflexões econômicas e sociopolíticas de Monteiro Lobato nas obras Mr. Slang e o Brasil (1927) e América (1932) acerca da realidade brasileira e norte-americana nos anos 20 e 30\, assim como contextualizar o papel do escritor e da literatura num período de crises\, tensões e conflitos ao redor do mundo\, em especial no que concerne ao projeto literário lobatiano. \nDe igual modo\, busca-se o aprofundamento na construção do personagem Mr. Slang\, figura central das duas obras aqui escolhidas\, que se constitui como um alter ego lobatiano\, na medida em que há muitos pontos em comum entre a biografia do autor e as questões tratadas nas duas obras\, em especial nas que dizem respeito à necessidade de industrializar e modernizar o Brasil para prepará-lo para as demandas do século XX. \nSendo assim\, as temáticas abordadas nos dois livros\, acerca da modernização do Brasil\, do processo de industrialização brasileira\, da análise do modelo econômico estadunidense\, da relevância financeira de São Paulo serão de grande relevância para compreender o pensamento de Lobato e sua trajetória no cenário literário brasileiro. Além disso\, em América e Mr. Slang e o Brasil\, busca-se analisar a construção dos personagens na narrativa\, a importância do interlocutor brasileiro e Mr. Slang no desenvolvimento das reflexões em relação à sociedade. Em América\, o estudo sobre as questões sociais se tornam pertinentes\, assim como o empoderamento feminino\, o modo de vida estadunidense e o declínio financeiro dos Estados Unidos. Em suma\, a pesquisa pretende analisar a reflexão crítica que Monteiro Lobato desenvolveu em suas obras. \n  \nPALAVRAS-CHAVE: Monteiro Lobato; Mr. Slang; América; papel do escritor; anos 20 e 30. \n ABSTRACT: The present research intends to analyze the economic and socio-political reflections of Monteiro Lobato in the works Mr. Slang and Brazil (1927) and America (1932) on the Brazilian and North American reality in the 1920s and 1930s\, as well as to contextualize the role of the writer and literature in a period of crisis\, tension and conflict around the world\, especially with regard to the Lobatian literary project. \nIn the same way\, it is sought the deepening in the construction of the character Mr. Slang\, central figure of the two works chosen here\, that constitutes as a alter ego\, since there are many points in common between the biography of the author and the questions in the two works\, especially those related to the need to industrialize and modernize Brazil to prepare it for the demands of the twentieth century. \nThus\, the themes discussed in the two books on the modernization of Brazil\, the Brazilian industrialization process\, the analysis of the US economic model\, and the financial relevance of São Paulo will be of great relevance to understand Lobato’s thinking and his trajectory in the scenario literary. In addition\, in America and Mr. Slang and Brazil\, we seek to analyze the construction of the characters in the narrative\, the importance of the Brazilian interlocutor and Mr. Slang in the development of the reflections in relation to society. In America\, the study of social issues becomes relevant\, as well as female empowerment\, the American way of life\, and the financial decline of the United States.
